Why Does A Concrete Slab Move or Crack?
Some of the main factors involved in slabs shifting, cracking and sinking are due to erosion, the climate and soil. Middle TN soaks up an average of 47 inches of rain each year. Each time it rains, it mixes with the soil and when the rainwater drains away it takes part of the soil with it causing erosion. Along with the natural process of erosion, harsh winter freezes cause the soil to contract further contributing to the ground shifting and settling. In addition to natural factors, a broken pipe or plumbing issue can accelerate the erosion process.
What is Polyurethane Concrete Leveling?
Polyurethane concrete leveling is a cutting-edge technique that involves injecting high-density polyurethane foam into voids and spaces beneath sunken concrete slabs. This foam expands and hardens, lifting and leveling the concrete to its original position. Unlike traditional methods like mudjacking, polyurethane concrete leveling offers several advantages including:
Lightweight Material: Polyurethane foam is significantly lighter than traditional mudjacking materials, reducing the stress on underlying soils and minimizing the risk of future settlement.
Quick and Efficient: The process is quick, often allowing for immediate use of the repaired area. Traditional methods may require days for the concrete to set and cure.
Minimal Disruption: Polyurethane leveling requires smaller injection holes, minimizing disruption to the surrounding landscape or structures. This is particularly advantageous in residential areas or high-traffic commercial spaces.
Water Resistant: Polyurethane foam is resistant to water, ensuring a longer-lasting and more reliable repair, especially in areas prone to moisture.
How Does Concrete Leveling Work?
We use a minimally invasive process called Slabjacking to restore your concrete to its original location. For this process, we use an environmentally friendly foam that provides a permanent concrete leveling solution. Our team drills small holes into the slab injecting the foam until it expands pushing the slab back into place. Once the slab is level and the foam has curred, the injection holes are patched restoring your concrete to its original location. The entire process takes less than an hour and doesn’t require heavy equipment or demolition.
